PFA Announces Election of New Board; Aims to Bring Sector Back to Pre-Pandemic Levels or Higher

The Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) recently announced the election of its new Board of Trustees coming from members in food, retail and service; from SMEs to large; both homegrown and foreign. Ms. Sherill Quintana of Oryspa was elected Chairman and was appointed Director for MSME and Homegrown Franchises (Non-Food) while Mr. Chris Lim of La-Z-Boy was voted President and was appointed Director for ASEAN and Special Projects.

The other members of the PFA Board of Trustees for 2022-2023 are:

  • Mr. Victor Paterno (7-Eleven) – Director for External Relations (Non-Food)

  • Mr. Richard Sanz (Bibingkinitan) – Director for Advocacy and Chair of the Council of Past Presidents

  • Dr. Carl Balita (CBRC) – Director for Education

  • Dr. Bing Sibal-Limjoco – Director for International Relations and official representative to the Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC)

  • Dr. Alan Escalona (Fruit Magic) – Director for Governance and Ethical Standards

  • Mr. Joseph Tanbuntiong (Jollibee) – Director for Research and Information

  • Ms. Rebecca Bucad (K-2 Drug) – Director for Membership

  • Mr. Robert Trota (Max’s Group Inc.) – Director for Filipino Global Brands

  • Mr. Jose Mari del Rosario (Microtel) – Director for Foreign Franchises (Non-Food)

  • Ms. Alice Liu (Penshoppe) – Director for Marketing and Promotions

  • Mr. Jose P Magsaysay, Jr. (Potato Corner) – Director for Homegrown Franchises (Non-Food)

  • Mr. Vic Gregorio (Shakeys) – Director for Digitalization

  • Mr. Joey Garcia (Wendy’s) – Director for Foreign Franchises (Food)

The PFA Board of Trustees will be supported by appointed directors namely:

  • Ms. Elizabeth Pardo-Orbeta (AICFE) – Director for Allied Service

  • Mr. Glenn Yu (Seaoil) – Director for North Luzon

  • Mr. Fred Moreno (Xcess Salon) – Director for NCR

  • Mr. Kenneth Lim (Dessert Factory) – Director for Visayas

  • Mr. Henry Fadullon (Phoenix Petroleum) – Director for Mindanao

PFA founding president Samie Lim continues to be the Association’s Chairman Emeritus.

With this announcement, the new PFA Board of Trustees expressed optimism for the Philippine franchising sector despite the lingering challenges. “During the past 2 years, PFA has worked in helping members adapt to the changes of the pandemic which has made the franchising sector poised to seize the opportunities of the new normal,” said PFA Chairman Quintana.

“Moreover, our optimism will be guided by 3 main action plans,” PFA President Lim said as he revealed the following:

  1. Grow PFA members across the Philippine and overseas

  2. Strengthen the capacities of PFA member

  3. Advocate for the interests of the franchising sector especially PFA members

“With this, we hope to bring the sector not only to pre-pandemic levels but to new frontiers,” Mr. Lim remarked.
